Pawfecto
A camera app designed for pet owners that plays attention-grabbing sounds to get pets to look at the camera.
Inspiration
I was chilling at a cafe on a Saturday, watching people walk their dogs near a fountain. I noticed something interesting: everyone taking photos of their dogs was struggling with the same problem—getting their pets to look at the camera.
They all had their own tricks. Some made weird sounds with their mouths. Others pulled out squeaky toys. Some shook treat bags or held snacks in front of the lens. It worked, but it looked awkward, especially in public.
That's when I had the idea: what if I could put all these attention-getting tricks into one camera app? Dog owners wouldn't have to awkwardly make sounds in public just to get a good picture.
Solution
Pawfecto is a camera app designed specifically for pet photography. I took inspiration from the iPhone camera app but replaced the bottom scrolling features (filters, effects) with sound selections.
I found a collection of sounds that attract dogs—barking, squeaky toys, doorbells, whistles, ultrasonic tones. You select a sound, tap to trigger it, your dog looks at the camera, and you capture the moment. Simple and effective.
How It Works
- Open the app and select a sound from the bottom carousel (14 built-in options)
- Tap to play the sound—your dog's attention is immediately drawn to the phone
- Tap the shutter button to capture the perfect shot
- Browse your gallery to see all the photos you've captured
The app also lets you record custom sounds if your pet responds better to specific noises. Built with Swift and SwiftUI, using AVFoundation for camera and audio playback.
